Vion transparency

Our aim is to be open and transparent

Background information and transparency

Consumers, animal welfare organisations, politics. The need for more background information and transparency in the production of food has increased in recent years. In this respect, the meat industry is always at the centre of critical public opinion. As leading company in the industry, Vion wants to meet society’s need for more transparency by improving its information supply.

On this website, we inform you in detail about the beef and pork production processes and continuously publish the documentation of certifications, inspections and audits of all Vion locations in the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium. We also provide information on the official slaughter animal and meat inspections of the animals delivered to and slaughtered at Vion.

Production process

Production is the “beating heart” of all Vion slaughtering and processing companies. Our highly trained employees work together with government veterinarians, inspectors and livestock farmers to comply with production and hygiene regulations, day in day out.
We give you a glimpse behind the scenes of our slaughtering and processing companies, to show how pork and beef is produced in a succession of controlled steps. We also explain everything we do to guarantee the hygienic conditions of this process to provide high-quality meat to consumers.

Inspection reports

Numerous inspections are carried out daily at the Vion companies by both the inspection services and our own quality department. On this website, Vion publishes the inspection results per quarter. Vion uses three different inspections: live inspection, meat inspection (food safety) and organ conditions.

Furthermore, the audit reports of the German veterinary authorities and the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA), certificates and the reports on process and product comments of all production sites concerned can be found at the relevant location pages.
